Five Bravehearts Named All-FCBL

Worcester, MA - The Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England announced yesterday the All-League First and Second teams, which included five Worcester Bravehearts. Grafton-native and Assumption University pitcher Jack Choate received First-Team honors, while Ashland-native Alex Amalfi (UMass Boston), North Attleboro-native Dennis Colleran (Northeastern), Randy Flores (Franklin Pierce) and Gavin Noriega (Marist) received Second-Team honors.

 

Choate was also honored by the Futures League during the 2021 All-Star Game in New Britain, taking home the Pitcher of the Night award. During the 2021 season, Choate set a new FCBL single-season record by striking out 82 batters in the regular season. 

 

Bravehearts closer Colleran highlights the All-FCBL Second Team after being named the league’s Top Pro Prospect earlier in the month. The righty finished the season with a 1.11 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched. 

 

Amalfi, the final Worcester pitcher receiving honors, finished the season with a 3.37 ERA in 53 innings pitched. Of the 11 games Amalfi appeared in, Worcester was victorious eight times, including the final game of the regular season which gave the Bravehearts a berth in the 2021 FCBL Playoffs. 

 

Noriega highlights the two Bravehearts position players named to the Second-Team. The first-baseman out of Marist hit .359 for the team with 4 home runs and 34 RBI. Flores, with whom Noriega shared the right-side of the infield with, joins him on the FCBL Second-Team. The Bravehearts lead-off man hit .310 , and set a Worcester single season record of five triples. He also stole a team-high 20 bases.
