Hartigan Retires

Kevin Hartigan, the 2nd employee ever hired by the Bravehearts in November of 2013, is retiring from the team after winning his fourth championship in 2019.

Hartigan - affectionately known to players and staff as "Harty," - has been the driving force behind building the Bravehearts' roster in each of the team's first 6 seasons. The Bravehearts have advanced the FCBL championship series in each season, winning four times. He and his wife, Celia, have also been the leaders of the successful host family program that houses dozens of Bravehearts players each summer with local families around Worcester.

"I feel extremely proud of what I have accomplished with the Bravehearts in these years," said Hartigan. "I have enjoyed many years of success on the baseball field and feel I have been a critical part of its success today."

Hartigan, who retired from the Worcester Fire Department in 2015, was honored with his own bobblehead doll on July 26, 2015 at a Bravehearts game. He was elected into the Millbury Athletics Hall of Fame in November, 2015 because of his outstanding baseball career at Millbury High School and his remarkable track record of community involvement spanning 30 years in West Boylston, where he now resides. He stepped away from coaching in the fall of 2017 in order to focus on his position in the Bravehearts' front office.

"The Bravehearts would not be where we are today without Kevin Hartigan," said General Manager Dave Peterson. "He has developed so many talented rosters here in Worcester through a multitude of relationships with New England college coaches and his experience as a Major League Baseball Scout. He has always gone above and beyond to make sure our players had wonderful host families, top-notch practice equipment, and exceptional post-game meals catered by the Creedon family. We will miss him."

Kevin Hartigan plans to continue as an area scout for the New York Mets but looks forward to traveling more with his wife during his retirement.
Manager Alex Dion and the rest of the coaching staff will take over the responsibilities of recruiting the roster and running the host family program.
