Former Braveheart to start Game 5 of ALDS

Worcester, MA - With the best of five American League Divisional Series tied at two games each, the Cleveland Guardians will turn to former Braveheart Aaron Civale to start Game Five in Yankee Stadium on Monday Night. The winner of Monday’s matchup will move on to face the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series.

A 2014 Braveheart, Civale held a 1.52 ERA with a .97 WHIP in Worcester. He was selected to the Futures League All Star Game in the summer of 2014 and later went on to win the team’s first ever championship. Civale is a product of Northeastern University and played for the Huskies from 2014 - 2016. The then-Indians drafted him in the third round (92nd overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft and he was called up during the 2019 season.

After leading the team in wins in 2021, Civale dealt with injuries during the 2022 season, as he endured three different stints on the injured list. The righty finished the season strong after coming off the IL as he went at least five innings giving up two runs or less in each start.

“We are extremely proud of Aaron for his success at the highest level of professional baseball,” said Bravehearts General Manager Dave Peterson.

Peterson, along with four other front office members were in attendance in Cleveland, Ohio when Civale made his Major League debut in 2019.

“It has been thrilling to see Aaron progress in the Major Leagues. All of the Bravehearts front office are Guardians fans tonight,” said Peterson, who was rocking a “Cleveland” Aaron Civale Jersey.

Game 5 of the American League Championship will start at 7:07 PM ET on Monday, airing nationally on TBS.
