Bravehearts Lose in Home Run Derby

Burlington, VT— The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the Vermont Lake Monsters for the second consecutive game, this time losing 2-1 in a Futures League home run derby tie breaker. It is the 13th straight win for the Lake Monsters. The loss drops the Bravehearts record to 21-20.

 

The Lake Monsters scored the first run of the game in the sixth inning when Ethan Anderson (Virginia) hit a solo home run. The Bravehearts would tie it up in the eighth inning on a Sebastian Salado (Palm Beach Atlantic) single.

 

Bravehearts starting pitcher Bryce Afthim (Southern Maine) pitched 5.1 innings. He only allowed one run on three hits, while striking out five. Luke Delongchamp (Boston College) of Holden, MA pitched the next 1.2 innings, striking out two. North Attleboro native Dennis Colleran (Northeastern) pitched the last three innings, striking out three. The Lake Monsters starting pitcher Patrick Harrington (Assumption) went six shutout innings for Vermont.

 

After 10 innings, and the score tied 1-1, the game was sent to a home run derby. The Bravehearts sent Tayven Kelley (Penn State) up to bat. He was unable to hit any out of the ballpark. The Lake Monsters sent Anderson out, and he hit the game-winning home run on his second swing.

 

The Bravehearts have Monday off, then they will host the Nashua Silver Knights on Tuesday, July 20. First pitch from Hanover Insurance Park is at 6:30pm.
